Community Guidelines
Hwy17 works because it is neighbors talking to neighbors. These are the ground rules.
Be a neighbor
Disagree without attacking. No harassment, slurs, threats, or pile-ons. Assume the person on the other end lives down the road from you — because they probably do.
Keep hazard reports honest
Hazard reports move fast and people act on them. Report only what you have seen or can verify, mark it cleared when it clears, and never file a false emergency. In an actual emergency, call 911 first.
Protect privacy
Do not post another person's home address, phone number, license plate, or photos of them taken without consent. Street-level details about other residents get removed.
No spam or covert promotion
Business owners are welcome — recommend a local pro through the directory, or ask about a sponsor placement. Repetitive link drops, affiliate spam, and fake recommendations get removed.
Stay in the corridor
Hwy17 is for the Highway 17 corridor and the surrounding mountain communities. National political flame wars belong somewhere else.
How moderation works
- Any member can report a post, comment, or hazard using the Report action.
- Content matching an automated filter, or posted in a burst, is held for review before it appears. You will still see your own held content.
- Moderators can restore, remove, warn, suspend, or ban. Every decision is logged.
- Suspended accounts can still read but cannot post. Banned accounts lose access.
Appeals
If you think a decision was wrong, reach out through the contact page and a human will look at it again.
